wpd Ardmore suspend works at Waternish

It is with great regret that wpd Ardmore Limited (wpd) announce the suspension of development work for a wind farm on the Waternish Peninsula, Isle of Skye.

Following recent energy policy announcements by the UK Government, the market conditions for renewable energy in Scotland have changed significantly, to the extent that wpd has made the difficult decision to suspend all investigations for the foreseeable future at Ardmore.

Since wpd began work at Waternish in late 2012, staff have had the opportunity to become acquainted with many of the community members and crofters in the local area. This has been a delight and wpd are grateful for the welcome and input that members of the Waternish community have provided.

wpd had expected to put a planning application for up to seven turbines before The Highland Council planning department in 2016. If permitted, a wind development at Ardmore was expected to make a meaningful contribution to local generation of clean energy and support a range of community schemes, including a co-operative ownership model.
